“I Am Not Afraid”: Seun Okinbaloye Responds to Wike’s Threat on Live TV

“I am not afraid,” declared Seun Okinbaloye as he reacted to a controversial remark by Nyesom Wike, who said he “would have shot him” during a live media appearance—sparking outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of journalists in Nigeria.
The comment was reportedly made during a recent episode of Media Chat, where Wike, known for his outspoken style, responded angrily to questioning. His statement quickly drew widespread criticism across media and civil society, with many describing it as reckless and dangerous, particularly in a country where journalists often face threats and intimidation.

In response, Okinbaloye, a prominent presenter with Channels Television, maintained a calm but firm stance, emphasizing that journalists must not be silenced by fear. He reiterated the role of the media in holding public officials accountable and stressed that intimidation has no place in a democratic society.

Media stakeholders and advocacy groups have since weighed in, calling for restraint in public discourse and urging political leaders to respect press freedom. Analysts warn that such rhetoric, if unchecked, could embolden hostility toward journalists and undermine democratic values in Nigeria.
